Totaled the Durango

Sierra and I were at a competition in Spanish Fork last weekend. We decided to leave and go grab some lunch while she had a couple of hours off. We didn't get very far.

I was looking around to find a place for us to eat. Traffic stopped suddenly, and we didn't. I hit the truck in front of me- his back window smashed out, and he hit the truck in front of him-minor bumper damage. Our truck however did not fare so well. After the initial shock, I made sure Sierra was ok...her neck was hurting but she was fine. I got out to survey the damage...it was not good. Oil & Antifreeze leaking everywhere, front grill, lights, & hood smashed and hanging. I was able to drive it off the road but when I turned the steering wheel everything was crunchy and squeaking.

Two ambulances, three cop cars, and the tow truck were all present with lights and sirens as they pulled up. I was already shook up but when I heard all of that I really started to cry and couldn't stop. We were all checked out by the EMT's and everyone was fine. Sierra and I were sore for a few days but decided we did not need to go to the hospital. The other drivers were fine also and no one was transported by ambulance. The other two drivers were both able to drive away. Our car, however, went up on the tow truck and was hauled away.

The policeman was nice enough to transport us back to the school until we could figure out how we were going to get home. Couldn't get a hold of anyone for a while, but dad was nice enough to come and pick us up. Sierra wanted to finish her last two routines and then leave. What a trooper. I could tell she was still pretty shook up while she was dancing, but I was proud of her for plowing through it.

We were able to pick up our rental car the next day and have happily been driving it for the last 6 days. It's a sporty little Pontiac G6. Very different from what we are use to...especially the 30 mpg!! Love it!! I got the news today that they are totaling the Durango. So I am not sure what we will do now. I need to speak with the adjuster about where to go from here. So we will need to find new wheels. Always something exciting with us.

I have been driving very cautiously and nervously since then. Being in a wreck really does shake you up. But we are both fine. I will get pics if I can...but I will certainly miss my "Brown Suga" She was a pain in the A and got horrible gas mileage, but she was fun to drive and had room for all the kids and their friends. We will definitely be getting something that gets better mileage this time around!

Hello Again!

It's been so long since I posted anything I almost couldn't remember my password to log in!! My computer has been running really crappy and wouldn't load pics or play video or music...so to me, It's not worth posting anything if I can't put a pic with it. However, Dallin (Patrick's son) came to the rescue last night. He figured out why my wireless internet was not working, and it has been down for about 6 months. Got my computer to run faster and got my laptop up and running as well. Needless to say, I am a happy girl with all my gadgets up and running!! The kids are loving it as well. Why is it that the teens nowadays can figure out this tech stuff like it's nothing? Well, I love it. Thanks so much Dallin.

Big D...Dallin Atencio

Patrick has been helping me get the yard in shape. It's no big deal to him, but I am so appreciative. My yard is so tiny, but such a mess. Everytime he comes over he is pruning, raking, shoveling, or planting something. Lord, I love that man!! He's been great to help me with the never-ending fix-it list for the house too! He is a true sweetheart! Thanks you for all your help Pat!!

At the Drill Showcase

Pat's first dance competition...see the fear in his eyes!!

The kids have been busier than ever! We are always on the go with Drill Team, Dance Classes, Baseball, Activity Days, School Events, and hanging out with friends. My car has not stopped driving for the last two months!! :-)

Sierra tried out for Drill Team again and was elected Junior Rep. Which will be a big job for her. She has been busy planning the year and excited about what they plan to do. She will be 16 in just a few short weeks! June 8th. She will be able to get her driver's license. Her dad has arranged a car for her, but they have to get it here from Texas. hmmmm...guess that will be her first road trip. I will keep you updated on that. But she is extremely excited about that. I am too, but I fear I will not see her much after that. As the only time we currently spend together is when I am driving her somewhere. She is still dating her boyfriend Mark. He is a great kid and a good influence on her.
Sierra modeled some prom dresses for a rental site. She was able to use this gorgeous one for her Drill Team Showcase Performance. She was escorted by her dad.

Sierra won first place with her amazing solo at the NY Nationals

Montana continues to flourish as a writer. She is writing stories on her author website day and night. When I read them, I can't believe what an amazing talent she has. She is almost finished with one book and when it is posted I will put the link up. I think we may have a legitimate author in the family!! She is also LOVING her dance classes...especially HIP HOP. She cannot wait for Tuesdays. I love to see her enjoying it so much! Her recitals are coming up next month and then she can try out for ShowTeam if she wants to. I think she is still torn between that and soccer. She has been playing in a recess league at school and really loves it. Although I have still not seen her mad skills she keeps bragging about. hee hee.

Montana's modeling session with Sierra. Zoolander comes to mind! :-)

You are gorgeous girl!

Superflagraph!

Mad Skills! This is called a Capital Letter Stall! You go girl!

Justice has been doing well with baseball but still struggles with the intense schedule. It's game or practice everyday. He's at that age where he somedays would rather just stay home and watch tv, but can't. When he is there, he loves it. He has been playing right field and occassionaly 2nd base. He has hit the ball when up to bat a few times and has been walked to base several times. His favorite part of the game is when he can steal a base. So cute! When he is in the outfield he is practically in center splits...what a card. But he is learning so much from his fantastic coach, and I think it is sooooo good for him to spend time with a bunch of boys. I feel for him in this house of girls. He needs his man time!! He has grown to love the History Channel & the Military Channel on tv. Daddy, Grampa, and Patrick all watch it, and I think he has learned that it's just what boys do!

Don't split your pants!!

Trying to stay warm!

Hey batta batta batta, sa-wiiing batta!!

Here we go Bluejays, here we go!!

We are enjoying spring/winter, and are hopeful that the snow has ended and the sunshine can stay! School will be out the first week of June and it will be nice to be able to spend some down time with the kids. Can't wait for summer!

March Madness

Baseball, Dance, School, Travel, Work, Repeat....

Life has gotten pretty hectic around here, but everyone is happy & enjoying what they do.

Montana has been ecstatic about her dance classes. We were out to dinner recently and she actually jumped up and said "hey...watch my dance!" and started bustin' a move. Usually I am begging her to show me what she has been learning in class. Now here she is actually doing it in front of total strangers!! Love that girl. She is really loving her hip-hop class, likes her jazz class, and just kind of tolerates ballet. But ballet is required (she is rolling her eyes as I type this) and will iron out those awkward kinks over time. I'm so stinking proud of her. She also has gotten involved in a recess soccer team. It is organized by the school and they play periodically. So she is always full of stories of her big goals scored and how she is the star of the team. I need to get over there and see my little soccer star with my own eyes. :-) And lastly, our little Montana has always been a very creative soul. She has been extremely creative with writing, drawing, and speaking...but she has written some really wonderful stories lately. She got turned on to mightyauthors.com by her teacher at school. It's a website that helps them publish their own stories. She has been madly typing for days. I get to peek at the story occassionally, and although I know I am bias, I am telling you it is pretty good. It has a real southern flavor and she has thought the characters through pretty thoroughly. I am really encouraging her writing. She will begin posting her updates to the story on her personal blog. Check it out if you have time...super cute for a 10 year old. http://montanathatsme.blogspot.com

Justice has been consumed with baseball! He is in love with it. He doesn't even mind the daily practice regimen. Which I really worried about. He has the greatest coach. He is super patient with the kids and really TEACHES them how to play the game. He is really enthusiastic with the boys and you can tell he really loves coaching. They had their first practice game a couple nights ago. I can't remember what the score was but both teams seems pretty evenly matched. Justice played right centerfield and second base. He looks so cute out there. He was up to bat twice...both strike outs, but he is really getting the hang of it. He got his first cup for protection, and loves to play that thing like a drum! It's hilarious, but we are trying to get him to cool it! Games will start in a couple of weeks. Pics to come.

Sierra was able to travel to New York City with her drill team for the National Competition. They were there for 6 days full of sightseeing, broadway shows, dance classes, and of course the competition. She was able to see the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Times Square, Rode a carriage in Central Park, lots of shopping, and pictures! She called me the night of the competition and told me that she had won the overall 1st place solo trophy! She competed against 19 other girls from all over the country. She worked so hard on her solo this year...even choreographed it herself due to the lack of time & funds available for a solo coach this year. She did a fantastic job & the judges obviously thought so too! I'm so incredibly proud of her! There is nothing this chica can't do....except clean her room..lol! Her team also did a fantastic job. They took 1st place in their medium team category, and 2nd overall in the sweepstakes. Drill has been quite an experience this year. So time demanding, but she totally loves it and is planning on trying out again, and try-outs begin next week. Way to go sweetpea!

So my time is basically spent driving these kids around, making meals, cleaning up, & working. But it is worth it to see the smiles on these little rugrats faces. Nothing new to report...except that I'm a happy girl. Still dating my sweety Patrick. He's a great support to me. I feel very blessed.

Another crazy week

We heard from Justice's new baseball coach. He was selected to be on the BlueJays team! He had his first practice tonight & I was very impressed with his coach and the other boys on the team. They will practice MWF until games start next month and then they will either have practice or a game every night, but weekends off. Yikes! They practiced batting, outfield, throwing/catching with a partner, and finished with running laps with their glove on, two balls in their mitt, and arm up above their head. Justice had a smile on his face the whole time. It will be so good for him to hang out with boys and to belong to a team. I'm really excited for him!!

Montana had a lump taken out of her Left forearm today. It was very similar to the lump I had removed. We took her up to Primary Children's Hospital to have the procedure done. They had a Life Skills nurse come in and explain everything that was going to happen to her. She offered toys/books/movies/blankets/pillows to soothe & distract her during the surgery. She held her hand and talked to her the entire time. Montana was laughing and talking while her arm was wide open and bloody. It was great to see that she was in such great hands. They were able to completely remove the tumor. They are thinking it was an inclusion tumor?? But sent it off to the lab to be sure. She was a trooper and was not in any pain after the surgery. We will see how she feels tomorrow. She will need to go back to the doc in 2 weeks to have her stitches removed.

Sierra is gearing up to go to New York this week with her high school Drill Team for the National Competition. They are ready!! They look hot!! They have worked all year for this. They took first place at this competition last year and they are hoping for a repeat! Sierra is going to be competing her solo. I am so sad that I won't be able to be there. But her dad is going to be there to support her for most of the trip. Other drill moms, and her coaches will be there with her & I know she will be fine. But it's hard to let her go so far away with out me & even harder because it is somewhere I would LOVE to go with her!! So I pray for her safety & I know that she will dance her buns off! I'm so excited for her!!

I'm still at Fox working nights. Wish I could get on a day schedule...I am trying to find a position to move into, but for now it looks like I am stuck where I am. Slow and steady wins the race right? I am still dating the amazing Patrick! Our kids are getting along great and we really enjoy spending all of our spare time together. Wish I had more of it. So life is good!

Baseball Try-outs & The Flu

It's been quite an eventful week. The kids & I have all taken turns with the stomach flu. Some mild, and some severe. Sierra seemed to catch the worst of it and had to take a trip to the doc. She ended up with a sinus infection, strep throat, & the flu. She is feeling much better. So somebody was home from school everyday this week. But we seem to be on the mend & the upswing.

Today Justice had his first baseball tryout. He had to run, catch, throw, and bat. We have been working with him and trying to prepare him as best as we knew how. I think he did an excellent job!! We will hear from the coaches sometime next week to let us know which team he has been chosen for. He had a big ole smile on his face when he was finished...It's so fun to celebrate these kind of joys with my kids. Patrick & Eric were also there to help cheer him on. I think we were all just as nervous as he was. Silly grown-ups! Many thanks to Patrick & Dallin for teaching mom & Justice the basics...couldn't have done it without you- that's for sure!!

Lump Free

I have been plagued with Lipoma Tumors for the last 15-20 years. They are benign fatty masses that grow into hard lumps under the skin. They don't hurt but are unsightly and embarassing. I have been wanting to have them removed for a very long time. So, yesterday I took the plunge and scheduled a surgery to have them removed.

I had one removed from my left forearm, and 7 removed from my left thigh. The doc said they were some of the biggest lumps he had ever seen. They were very stubborn, but they did eventually come out. I was given some liquid IB to relax my muscles, and then several local anesthetic shots around each lump. I was very nauseous and the medicine turned my stomach upside down. I was really surprised how much matter was actually pulled out of my poor leg. They looked like little boneless chicken breasts.

Once the first one came out, I started crying. I have been teased a lot about these darn things, and I think my self-esteem has suffered a bit. So it was bittersweet. Happy they were gone, Sad I hadn't done this long ago.

I was stitched up with over 75 stitches, steri-stripped, and some bandaids on top. My forearm doesn't look too bad, but my leg looks like hamburger. I know it will heal up great & it will be so fun to wear my bathing suit this summer and show off my lump free legs! I have to go back and have 5 more removed from my right side. Piece of cake. It was painful & I am bruised, sore & still a bit nauseous. But it was totally worth it.

Thanks for all the well wishes!

February Fun!

Montana Started back to dance!!! She is taking jazz, ballet, & hip-hop. She is really enjoying it and doing a fantastic job. I think her style is more geared to the hip hop side of things- she gets so into it. She practices constantly...that's how I know she really enjoys it. She also had the opportunity to see Swan Lake done by Ballet West yesterday with her school for a field trip. I think she is really gaining an appreciation for dance and what it can teach her. She is growing so fast. I know I say that every post, but literally she is almost a woman. She has her maturation program at school next month...that's when you know she's growing up. She also had her first boyfriend experience! A boy at school named Mike asked her if she wanted to go out. Which is code for=will you be my girlfriend, but we wont actually go anywhere. She said yes & was on cloud nine for a whole 24 hours. He kissed her on Valentines Day on the cheek. Awww...and then they broke up. Young love. So sweet. Here are some pic of her and Justice from a family photo shoot they did with their dad. So cute!

Justice has decided to sign up for little league baseball!!! He is so excited he can hardly contain himself. So we are getting him geared up! He needs a lot of practice as we have never played much ball in this family. But we have a lot of friends that are excited to step in and help him. He also just had an eye exam to see if he needed glasses. He has been getting headaches and squinting a lot in school. The doc decided he really only needs readers. So he made a special prescription for him. The doc also said he may grow out of needing them once his eyes get stronger. So, now we have two in glasses. He picked out a really cute pair. Let's just hope we can keep track of them!

Sierra's high school was featured on Channel 13 as the Cool School of the week. It was really fun to see all the different things that are going on in her school. They featured the drill team in a few spots. They did their lyrical routine (my absolute favorite) which was dedicated to a girl on the team who has cancer. It is heartwrenching for me to watch. Plus it is fantastic. Here are the links:

Also...Sweethearts Dance was really interesting for her this year. Sierra & her friend both have boyfriends that weren't able to go to the dance....so they went with each other. They got corsages, did the official asking & answering. I was a little leary of the whole thing. But she said it was so much fun. No date awkwardness...just total fun. Here are some pics of them before the dance, and also her drill team performing the lyrical routine (posted in the links above)at a basketball half-time @ school.

I broke up with Jim, things just fizzled out. We decided we weren't right for each other. And we ended things on a good note. A friend of mine from high school heard that I was single and asked if I would like to go out. I was VERY surprised to hear from him. We were friends in high school but never dated or did things together. We had some real magic on our first date and we have been inseperable since. His name is Patrick (Pat) and I am really excited about how things are going with him. He has two boys 14 & 8 and they are adorable! Justice is excited to play ball with them, he also has instantly attached to Pat which is so fun to see. Anyhoo....that's the scoop with us. Everything is going well & we just keep plugging along!
